De Paul College began its illustrious mission in the year 1991, in a very humble manner. In the first phase it is started a junior college for boys only with 13 students on its roll. Today it is an established college offering intermediate courses in four streams (MPC, BiPC, CEC) to around 480 students. MPC courses in the junior college level offers the platform for the students who are aspiring to join in engineering in later stage. We have here an experienced faculty for training the students for the same. The labs of physics and chemistry in the junior college level are equipped with all the facilities for the practical analysis of physical as well as the chemical world.

Commerce stream is still a very popular choice among Indian students who have passed 10th standard. Briefly, it seemed like Science stream and its popularity had tarnished the image of Commerce stream. It made it looks like this stream was reserved for students who were not too bright. But it has proved everyone wrong and is still being chosen by bright students! Commerce stream opens doors that lead to professional courses, which acts like foundations! For example, consider B.Com. (Bachelor of Commerce) course. This 3 years long undergraduate Degree program is like a foundation course. After completing it, one may choose from a wide variety of PG professional courses and specialize in many other fields/areas!

Students studying under Commerce stream have a thoughtful outlook on the outside world. This career has lots of difficult challenges and practical facts added to it. Most students opt for Commerce because they want to take the next step in business and follow the strategies to become successful. What is commerce?

Commerce as a stream of education can be defined as a study of trade and business activities such as the exchange of goods and services from producer to final consumer. The main subjects that are taught in the Commerce stream in Class 11 and 12 include Economics, Accountancy and Business Studies. Choose this field if you have a genuine interest in these subjects and have an affinity for numbers, the economy and business.
The important subjects taught in the school curriculum of 11th and 12th are Economics, Accountancy, and Business Studies. Students are advised to choose this field if they have an affinity for numbers and have more interest in business and economy.

Subjects in Commerce after 10th

  • English – Will mostly include fiction and nonfiction lessons and you will be expected to answer questions from the stories you read in your textbooks. Additionally, there would be some letter writing, essays, article writing, note making etc – the basic you need to know to work in an office later on.
  • Accounting – Accountancy is a branch of mathematical science that is concerned with the financial information about a business entity to users such as shareholders and managers. The financial communication that is studied under the subject is generally in the form of financial statements that show in the terms of money the economic resources under the control of the management. Studying accountancy enables a student to learn and discover the various causes of successes and failures of different business enterprises
  • Business Studies – A subject essentially to be applied in your whole life. It will introduce you to the concepts of marketing, finance, organizational behavior and business world. From now on to MBA – to consulting or investment banking – you’ll essentially be going deeper and deeper into these concepts introduced now. The main areas of study in the subject include business organizations, their various features, structure and functioning, marketing, operations management, human resource management, etc
  • Economics – This subject which will teach you why the world works in a certain way in very simple terms. You’ll learn what is demand, supply, their interplay, the business systems, consumer behavior, production concepts, cost concepts and everything in between. You’ll also familiarize yourself with concepts of growth, development, poverty, inequality and governance. Economics has two broad branches – micro-economics, where the unit of analysis is the individual agent, such as a household or firm, and macro-economics, where the unit of analysis is an economy as a whole.

With things like gene therapy, MMR vaccines, nuclear power, oil depletion, genetically modified foods, bird flu and global warming, future scientists have a fascinating and crucial role to play.
  • Science and Mathematics provide students with highly relevant skills that are applicable to almost any workplace. They offer a flexible foundation enabling students to attain highly respected and well paid jobs and guarantee them a secure future.
  • Engineering (IITs, NITs, BITS), Medical (AIIMS, MAMC) or Basic Sciences (IISc), there are world class institutes in India where you can pursue higher education.

Therefore, if a student wishes to pursue the choice of making a career in Commerce stream only because they feel that science is not a suitable stream for them, they need to rethink their priorities and their choice. Students choose Commerce stream only if they have an aptitude as well as an avid interest in it.
